During the deepest part of the Saskatchewan winter hibernation, filmmakers from around the province rallied together to create some new works to develop their skills and style, and instill some heart-warming feelings in each other.
This was the inaugural challenge set by a new group on the media sharing website, Vimeo. The Great Saskatchewan short video challenge asked filmmakers to complete a series of quests for visionary adventurers, to keep up their personal practice of media creation. They were to create the work quickly and to not be held back by concerns of perfection.
The first quest was to take some vacation footage and turn it into a short film. (check out the original post: here)
It was very cool to see that the group received seven submission to its first challenge and I found it fascinating to see how differently styled works are within the same constraints. It was very encouraging to see the films of others (that perhaps may not have existed without this group), receive feedback and comments on each video page, and, of course, watch some films that features footage that was (generally) a breath of fresh air in the currently chilly climate. At the time of writing this, the following artists have submitted works for this particular challenge:
Kent Tate, Noelle Duddridge, Berny Hi, Chrystene Ells, Gerald Saul, Jo Weiss, and Active Dynamics
To view their works, “Read more” or visit the group.
Stay tuned for the next challenge. Coming soon!
If you are still wanting to submit, you are most welcomed to. In fact, that’s a good challenge in itself! Go now and make a film, upload it to Vimeo and add it to the group: vimeo.com/groups/saskatchewanchallenge
