The Saskatchewan Filmpool Cooperative has made the difficult decision to temporarily close the co-operative from October 1 to April 1, 2025. This decision, regretfully, means we had to lay off all staff members and pause programming and services.
This temporary closure is essential to balance our books and address the substantial financial deficit faced by the organization and will ensure the Filmpool moves forward with a balanced budget and healthy cash flow at the start of our next fiscal year, April 1, 2025.
The BOD is also using this time to create a stabilization plan to be publicly shared in February 2025. This plan includes strategic goals to strengthen our governance and leadership, creation support, and refine our programming. These goals are essential to ensure sustainable capacity and revenues so we can support Saskatchewan independent filmmakers as we approach our 50th anniversary in 2027, and beyond.
We are also using this time to hire new paid leadership, to be announced at a later date. The implementation of this stabilization plan is vital to ensure all employees have the structure they need to succeed in implementing our mandate. The Executive Committee continues to manage operations during the temporary closure, and we ask that if you have any questions to please write to: exec@filmpool.ca
We thank all of our membership, partner organizations, and wider community for your patience during this temporary closure. We look forward to re-opening in 2025 on stronger footing, and moving forward together with courage and clarity.
