Pleased to welcome our Hybrid residents, Gavin Baird and Salem Zurch!
So happy to have them with us over the next while. A small introduction to get to know them each a bit better:
Gavin Baird (above, left) is a Metis independent filmmaker based in Saskatoon, SK. Since graduating from the Recording Arts Institute of Saskatoon with an honours diploma in 2015, he has focused on producing narrative works. In 2016 he started his production company, Dynamic Video Imaging with producing partner Kyle Zurevinski. Since then he has directed and produced three feature-length films, three web-series, and four short films. His work has been screened internationally at film festivals and has received two Saskatchewan Independent Film Awards.
Gavin has led micro-budget filmmaking workshops across the province including for organizations such as Filmpool and PAVED Arts. Over the past year he has instructed three week-long youth film workshops for the Saskatoon Open Door Society. Through his production company, Dynamic Video Imaging, in 2021 he organized and funded a BIPOC Film Grant for emerging Saskatchewan filmmakers.
From Salem: My name is Salem Zurch, and I am a multi-media storyteller who creates using both digital and analog film. My work is grounded in my mission of uplifting BIPOC queer and trans folks based in the prairies. As a mixed-race Black trans person, and lifelong resident of Treaty 6 territory, I am committed to telling stories that speak to the experiences of marginalized communities.
Welcome Gavin and Salem!!
